The location: Cayeux Sur Mer, in Picardy’s beautiful Baie de Somme, has a few surprises up its sleeve. Its shingle beach is lined with 460 colourful beach huts, and the bay is classed as one of the most beautiful in the world, providing inspiration for numerous painters and writers over the years. Indeed, French novelist Victor Hugo said that “once you have seen Paris and Cayeux, you have seen everything”.
Whether you choose to discover Cayeux and the surrounding area by car, on foot, on horseback, or even by sea kayak, you can’t fail to be impressed by its dramatic landscapes of cliffs, sea, and endless beaches, not to mention any wildlife you’re likely to see along the way.
Not only that, but the area is home to a number of salt marshes, which give rise
to a gastronomic peculiarity: make sure you sample the pre-sale – lamb that
comes ready-salted from grazing on the marshes!
