SKI AREAS

Meribel Valley

At the heart of the Three Valleys, the Meribel valley is composed of two ski areas: Meribel Alpina and Meribel Mottaret. Together they make up 150 km of pistes for all ability levels, harmoniously integrated into this unique site. Thanks to its favourable aspect, during good weather you may ski in sunshine and comfort all day.

Meribel Alpina

Lying above the charming, traditional mountain village of Les Allues, Meribel Alpina’s ski area offers you 75 km of pistes of varying grades of difficulty and vertical drop. With a culminating point at 2800m, and good snow cover all season thanks to an extensive network of snow canons, you can cover 1000m vertical drop in a single descent.

TWO AREAS DEDICATED TO NEW-STYLE RIDERS

In Meribel, the Moonpark :
A freestyle zone open to all, 4000' long, 660' vertical drop 
offering 1 competition standard half-pipe (460' long, 150' vertical drop, 20° slope), 1 half-pipe for learners (400' long, 130' vertical drop, 18° slope), and 3300' long boardercross (with whoops, tables and other obstacles).

At Meribel-Mottaret, the Plattieres snowpark : 
In Meribel-Mottaret, the Plattieres snowpark: 17 acres over a length of 1300 yrds. A fun and
freestyle area, open to all, featuring: jumps, whoops, banks and 2 half-pipes, where you can learn freestyling in complete safety. Close to this snowpark: “the long way round”, a boardercross terrain for families and children...

Cross-country skiing

Meribel, Courchevel and La Tania offers 90km (55 miles) of cross-country tracks: green and blue for beginners, red for confirmed nordic skiers.

33 km in the Meribel Valley, over two free magnificent sites: in the Natural Reserve of cembro pines at Lake Tueda (Meribel-Mottaret), and in the Altiport protected forest, starting point of the 8 km (5 miles) track to Courchevel.

For intermediate and advanced skiers, powder skiing and steep skiing with qualified mountain guides. Glacier skiing, discovery of the 3 valleys and of the prettiest itineraries in the Tarentaise region.

Ski Touring
Chamonix/Zermatt, hiking through the Vanoise, Haute-Maurienne and Grand Paradis glaciers, etc.

Ice Falls
Whether natural or artificial, they are accessible to any person in good physical condition.

Walking

Meribel offers walkers 25 km of specially groomed walking trails.
A guide is available in the Tourist Offices.

Ride the gondolas to the mountain tops and their altitude restaurants!
The pedestrian lift pass gives access to gondola lifts and cable car in the 3 Vallees and St Martin 2 chairlift.
Free buses in the resorts.

After you've gone home , chamois, tetras-lyres (blackgrouse) will remain on to fight the cold and try to survive one more winter. Survival can be summerized in this simple concept: save energy.

Snow has covered the animals’ usual food. They can no longer find anything to eat and have to delve in their own reserves. If food becomes scarce, needs increase: moving about in the snow becomes more exhausting, cold and wind involve more calories to keep the body at its normal temperature. A movement induced by disturbances might be insignificant, but the global consequences of numerous disturbances will result in weakening the animals and reducing their chance of survival .

As for the trees, they grow slowly in altitude. So, even if they do not appear to be tall, imposing, they can well be 100 years old. The ski edges, snowshoes, ski-sticks, can very easily hurt barks, or shoots, hinder their growth and increase the danger of diseases .
The wood twig, which barely broke through the snow, might have been a future Arolla pine…

The nature reserve's regulations and , specifically, the ban on off-piste skiing apart from a few authorised itineraries, aim at preserving wildlife tranquillity and protecting the plants. At the threshold of the biggest skiing area in the world, this rather small area is dedicated to them, please respect it.

* Dogs are banned in the nature reserve as well as in the Vanoise National Park (except, conditionally, alongside the Tueda lake, if kept on a lead).
